Preseason ratings are derived by multiplying each runner's previous year rating an amount which depends on the grade that the runner will be entering. That amount is determined by how much runners entering the same grade have improved historically from year to year.
Team scores are calculated based on projected score in a very large meet with runners with a large range of ability. Incoming freshmen are not taken into account.
